When it comes to feeling good for us women, it doesn’t usually stop at just having the right outfit, the perfect heels and accessories ….. yes it’s more complex than that!!!! The hair, the nails and the make-up need to be flawless too
For this instance we go do our hair at least once a week and nails more than likely every 3 weeks.
I can see me like it was yesterday way back in the late nineties I was introduced to nail extensions, and if I am not mistake it was a fairly new thang here on the rock. I never really had nails since as an addicted nail biter I ate them all (ewwww). Being then, clueless of nail extensions, I had a fixation on stick on nails, they looked good and easy to DIY, however little did I know the extent of the damage I was causing to my nail bed, hence they had to come off ASAP and sadly so I did. Fast forward a few years and just fresh from my 4 month stay in Canada, where I discovered that stick on nails were so passé and in their stead nail extensions so in ….. I remember late in the year 2001 I entered into the first of many nails salons, and needless to say I was so in awe of my long nails dotting the ever so trendy French manicure. Obviously since then I never looked back, not even about 9 months pregnant about to give birth (and advised to take them off) I just could not take them off and I thank my amazing nail technician Marcella Mifsud for sticking to my ever changing moods and my endless picture showing and my constant ‘hmmmm Mar I don’t know what I want’!!!!
But the word ‘extensions’ was about to haunt me again …. so to speak ….. Over the years my hair styles have changed so much I cannot even began to count how many hair colours I have been through or how many haircuts or in that matter hairdressers!!!! However, the one thing I longed so much for and sadly I could never achieve on my own was long hair! To say that I was obsessed is an understatement. I was infatuated with J-Lo’s luscious locks and Beyonce’s flowing mane. OMG I had to have that long hair! I must admit though as much as I lusted over hair extensions the thought of the expense was a bit too much just to satisfy a crave until ta-da-dam my sister wedding came around……… and what better occasion to have the extensions than a wedding!!! And so I did, and thanks to the amazing Ian Miller and Drew Warhurst the great people behind Godiva Topqualityhair or contact them on facebook …..it was quite a process and I was happy with the background info I was given as it is just so much more than long hair. There I was standing proud with a full head of virgin hair extensions, I was in love with the body and natural movement. I even got a boost in my character, it was incredible it felt like the extra hair gave me extra confidence!!!! Might be that time to re-boost my character 🙂
It only dawned on me lately, after noticing the ever constant feeds on my facebook page that eyelash extensions seem to have become the enhancement you should be doing this season and as essential as the red lip. Well I guess with celebs rocking eyelash extensions daily (and here I thought, they have a really good mascara) it could not be too far off for the rest of us to follow this trend and indulge before a big night out. They’ve become to our faces what the little black dress is to our wardrobes: the must have accessory for a glam night out.
So I started doing my homework and looked up some prices and whilst admittedly they might be a bit pricey, curiosity took the best out of me and contact a particular lash technician to ask her a few questions.
What are eyelash extensions?
Not to be confused with the self-stick strip falsies or individual clusters of lashes knotted together that are a single-event accessory, these semi-permanent, synthetic extensions are glued one by one onto the natural lash (not the skin) by using a specially formulated glue that lasts 2-4 weeks. Eyelash extensions are a new beauty service in Australia which originated in Korea. Single synthetic eyelashes are applied to your own natural eyelash to achieve a beautiful full luscious and long set of lashes that are natural and you won’t even know they are there.
What are some of the benefits of eyelash extensions?
One of the benefits of eyelash extension is that your eyelashes will look so long, beautiful and dark you won’t need to use mascara anymore!!!
Another benefit of eyelash extensions is that they make the eyes seem more open and have an enlarged look thus drawing people’s attention to them and for those with drooping eyelids, the longer eyelashes will make them look younger and fresher.
Will the application process hurt?
No. This is a time for you to relax and de-stress in our calming, peaceful environment. The process is so comfortable, relaxing, and pain-free that many sleep through the majority of their application.
Will your natural lashes get harmed or damaged?
The biggest myth is that lash extensions ruin your own lashes. They do not. If applied correctly and properly, they are safe and do not ruin the health of your natural lashes. Be sure not to rub your eyes or tug or pull on the extensions because this can cause lash loss and even damage to your natural lashes.
Will Eyelash extensions make your natural lashes fall out??
NO: Your eyelashes are constantly growing and shedding, just like the hair on your head. An eyelash has a finite life of 30-90 days. They are supposed to fall out. Since they are at different stages of the growth cycle, most people lose 1-3 natural lashes per day on average and never notice it because lashes are so small. Properly applied eyelash extensions do not affect this natural growth cycle but you may notice the shedding more than before because your lashes are darker and thicker with the extensions attached.
Can you wear mascara and other eye makeup?
Absolutely. Of course, one of the greatest benefits of eyelash extensions is eliminating the need for mascara on a daily basis. Eye shadows and eyeliners are perfectly fine to use. Oil-based products, particularly waterproof mascara, should be avoided as they may compromise the life of your extensions.
So at this stage my curiosity has been satisfied and with the festivities coming up I’m gonna make sure to book me in for a treat. A little selfie gift …. now don’t we all deserve one 🙂
Until next time
