Product review #5 | Benefit | They’re Real Push Up Liner

Benefit-Theyre-Real-Push-Up-Liner-2Hey Dolls …. So I have finally managed to come around to do the most awaited product review of them all (or at least for me) ever since I saw my fave beauty blogger Kandee and other bbloggers all hyped up about it – I felt that this liner was going to be my salvation – it’s like the dummy tool for becoming the pro on winged liners. Initially saddened as Benefit (the Brand) are not available on the island, I started an internet scavenger hunt and when I was about give up hope since none of the sites I found shipped to Malta … and then bam there it was. Believe me, I could not press the add to cart button fast enough!!!

Benefit-Theyre-Real-Push-Up-Liner-3So let’s review this amazing eyeliner that has been causing a stir in the beauty world. For me the eyeliner is the trickiest item in my makeup bag, it’s always such a hard task and usually end up spending hours applying it so that it is close to perfect as possible! Not only is the application hard but also in finding the right product that works for me. I have tried the dizzying array of product options available and I also have had two favourites for the past months as stated here and here. However, after having tried this liner, I have to be honest this eyeliner is epically my fave and let me explain why. Let me paint you a picture a gel liner in a pen format, waterproof and matte black? I’d be like yes, yes and undoubtedly yes.

When you unscrew the cap, you’ll see the tip has a little orange thing that you have to remove for the product to come out. (Well they don’t really talk about it anywhere, as far as I can tell, so I’m not sure if you’re supposed to put it back after use or throw it away. Mine is already long gone, so I hope not!).

Benefit-Theyre-Real-Push-Up-Liner-7Now onto the innovation part, that comes in the AccuFlex rubber style, angled applicator that sets it apart from any other pen. It’s not felt, like most pens and the tip is soft, thin and feels like silicone, making it very flexible and bends with the natural curve of your lash line as it dispenses the gel formula. The pen also helps to gently move your lashes out of the way so you can get closer to your lash line – making the tricky wing tips and cat eyes a breeze because you can almost stamp it on. Totally brilliant right?

The gel formula comes out after you twist the base – they say in the instructions “twist base once to ‘push up’ gel liner to tip” but the first time you need to twist about 20 or 30 times before anything comes out!!

‘Push-up liner’ means you only need to give the pen a few clicks and the gel is dispensed from the tip. So you won’t end up using too much of it, and you don’t have to worry about it drying out like a felt tip. A couple of clicks are needed for both eyes. No brush needed!

As mentioned above the gel liner is waterproof, so it will wear until you remove it! I get a solid eight to ten hours out of it without it smearing or flaky and at the end of the night it removes easily with an oil based remover.

The product doesn’t come out with the wet consistency (or thin lines) of a liquid liner. It’s much drier and you tend to get a thicker line. You can twist the base to get more out if you feel like the pen is dragging.

Don’t mistake it for a liquid eyeliner because it isn’t that! This is a soft, creamy matte eyeliner formula that has a slightly drier consistency than your standard gel eyeliner. When I used it for the first time I was thinking that TOO much eyeliner would flow out of the pen but this actually distributes a tiny little ribbon of eyeliner, no more, no less, that plenty to use on both eyes.

Benefit-Theyre-Real-Push-Up-Liner-14The pigmentation on the liner, as you see from the swatches, is totally amazing. It’s very inky, jet black, and perfect on a single application. No reason to build color as it doesn’t tug or smear as you apply it. It’s quite dry and sets to a matte finish so oily lids will love it. As for drier eyes, you’ll love it as well because even though the texture is matte it still has a smooth, even finish that’s very drama.

Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner sounded surreal to me at first but in the end I sure am glad I tried it as it truly is an innovative way to use eyeliner. And hey, if you’re as bad at lining your eyes as I am with liquid liner, have no fear, this is a completely easy way to get a straight, evenly lined eye with a long wearing formula that doesn’t budge.

Totally impressed Benefit. Well done!
