Tips for best Men skincare

Hey there my lovelies,

Welcome back to my Blog!

Thought I neglected you fellas out there who might read my Blog … nope this one is for you  …. I was asked by my better half to see what is the best men skincare routine out there, and you know me, give me challenge and I will do it to the best of my abilities, so here we are 🙂

So my dearest men, if you’re getting up in the morning, washing your face with normal soap and water or just water for that matter, and running out the door, then let me stop you right there and recommend that  it’s time for you to step up your skincare game.

Do not worry there will not be ANY hard-to-pronounce cleansers and creams that probably you won’t use. But merely my recommendations to commit to your memory and practice these five skincare tips that will make you feel better. Seriously though, don’t let these steps intimidate you these are simply fine-tuning to add to what you already do or don’t :p

This is a no-brainer. But the reality is, either you guys are doing it all wrong or just not doing it at all. Men are often guilty of taking super hot showers and using harsh soaps or your shower wash, which makes your skin dry and when your skin is dry you appear wrinkly and much older.  It is important that you invest in a good gentle face wash that will cleanse the skin from the dirt and oil that can accumulate.  On my researching hunt for the best products this Clinque For Men Face Wash, kept popping up as it is the perfect choice for daily use. It contains colloidal oatmeal that will hydrate while it cleansing at the same time

2. Stop buying cheap razors
Whilst I am happy to see that there has been a favorable increase in Barber shops in Malta, were our men are investing their time to go to one not just get their haircut but also get their bread shaved or trimmed the the old fashion way (thumbs up for all those men), there are the ones that more than likely shave five times a week.  A good quality razor can be a lifetime investment, so choose your weapon wisely. Choose a razor that fits your skin sensitivity and beard coarseness, trust me your face will thank you.  If you’re opting for the drugstore version I suggest you think twice before buying a razor with several blades as these these types of razors will more likely give you a) razor burn and b) ingrown hairs and this happens because the extra blades pull the hairs below the skin a little too deep.  Using a moisturizing or sensitive shaving gel is key to providing a barrier of protection whilst shaving, so slather that on.  Shave in the shower or immediately afterwards, as the facial hairs are much softer from the warm water and steam, plus, it eliminates having to clean up a dirty sink 😉 (you ladies with LOVE you for that!).  During my research I came across this razor the Gillette Fusion ProGlide Power Men’s Razor with Flexball Technology; that is said to be the next-generation model that supersedes grooming expectations as the orange ball hinge allows for an all-around flexibility that inspires you to experiment with several facial styles. The pivoting razor blade cartridge does a fantastic job of snatching stubble hair and uses thinner blades for decreased facial resistance. I would imagine that this eliminates any frustrations of pulling and tugging at your face. Moreover, the electronic functionality of the Proglide is clearly show stopper, delivering pleasant micropulses on the skin to increase razor glide. It is arguably the only pharmacy-afforded razor worth snagging from the shelf.

3. Make after-shave your new best friend
After-shave hydrates and soothes the skin; it also seals in the skin after a nice shave.  It is important that your after-shave is alcohol-free because alcohol dries your skin as plain and simple as that.  The best way to find your ideal after shave is to try a few and and then decide which one suits you best.  The Nivea Men range has the Replenishing Post Shave Balm which helps prevent infection.  Product contains vitamin E and can be used immediately after shaving.  However, I have to say that Dove have recently been stepping up their game in the men’s product range.  If  you are looking for a basic option, that hydrates, moisturises and is free from alcohol then this Dove Men+Care Face Care Post Shave Balm is your best choice (all available in local supermarkets and pharmacies).

4. Don’t skip the moisturizer.
Facial hair can be sexy on a guy, but really when touching our men face, we would much rather feel it soft than like sandpaper. Moisturizing daily will get you soft skin.  Best opt for a moisturizer that is fragrance-free as they have no smell and aren’t considered ‘girly’.  I have been seeing a lot about the brand Cetaphil that offer a good moisturizer choice.   A lightweight, oil-free formula, perfect for post-shave, it also soothes sensitive skin.  Also, the another goody from Clinque is the Clinique for Men mositurizer, suitable for all skin types and provides essential hydration while soothing and improving skin’s condition.  Both products come with SPF (very important my men!!! – nothing girly about SPF!!)

5. Never leave home without applying sunscreen.
Last tip is more of an advice, if as advised above you can opt for a moisturizer that contains SPF of 30 or higher, it is the best thing you can do and your face will thank you for it.  When using sunscreen especially if you work on the outside you decrease your risk of sun damage which includes redness, irritation, extra blood vessels and cancer.  It does not hurt to keep a separate bottle of sunscreen handy – so use it daily 🙂 Plus, it let’s us know that you actually care about your appearance. Bonus points right there!

So these were my 5 tips 🙂 Remember to try is to stay forever young (or close to it) and by following these 5 easy steps you are closer than you might think!

Until next time,
