With a lot of skincare products being advertised by various media outlets, it’s easy to get swept up by the hype. Everyone wants perfect skin, after all.

Not all products are good for your skin. Some of them are loaded with harsh chemicals that might do more harm than good. Choosing organic and natural products will give you better results and protect your skin from harmful substances.

With so many options out there, trying out new skincare products might feel a little intimidating at first, but don’t worry.

Here are some organic and natural skincare tips for beginners:

Check for fragrances

Using products that smell good makes your skincare routine feel therapeutic. But remember: Most fragrances are synthetic. They’re usually made of artificial substances that aren’t completely labeled properly in the ingredients. These artificial fragrances may irritate or damage sensitive skin. Do your skin a favor and choose fragrance-free products. If you really want a skincare product that smells good, then opt for those that use essential oils instead.

Check the ingredients

Looking at a product’s list of ingredients doesn’t stop at checking for synthetic fragrances. You should also check for harmful chemicals. Just because a product is labeled natural, organic, or even vegan doesn’t mean that it doesn’t contain artificial chemicals such as:

  • Ammonia
  • Formaldehyde
  • Sodium Laureate Sulfate
  • Triclosan
  • Mercury
  • Parabens
  • Polyethelyne Glycol
  • Ethanol
  • Sodium Myreth Sulfate

Build your own routine

There’s no hard and fast rule for the perfect skincare routine. Everyone’s skin is different, so one shouldn’t expect the same results just because a popular routine worked perfectly for someone else. The same goes for skincare products, even the organic and natural types.

Start by familiarizing yourself with your skin type, skin sensitivity, and any allergies that you might have. Even some organic and natural products can still irritate the most sensitive skin. Do some research on the different products that are beneficial for your skin, and build your routine based on that. Always opt for the gentlest products, especially if you’re feeling anxious about experiencing breakouts and irritation.

Look for reputable brands

Don’t stop immediately after finding a product that has all the ingredients and benefits that you’re looking for. Make it a habit to search for reviews before buying anything. Checking what other people have to say about it will help you figure out if this product really delivers what it promises, and if it’s really the right one for you.

An ethical consumer like you might also want to research about the company or brand behind this product. Get a better picture of the brand, its history, and its current activities to make sure it’s the kind of company that you want to support.

Go Cruelty-Free

Even some organic and natural products are still being tested on animals, so why not go the extra mile and choose cruelty-free products? Check the labels for animal testing information or cruelty-free logos. But, always remember that not all cruelty-free products are organic and natural.

Go Organic and Natural Today

You might feel excited and nervous about starting an organic skincare regimen. Not only are there a lot of factors to consider, you also need to put some effort into choosing your new products. Not all of them are cheap or easy to find. Finding the right products and creating your own skincare routine also involves a lot of trial and error at first. But once you get the hang of it, sticking to your routine will be easier, and you’ll achieve healthy-looking skin in no time.
